Tony just got the keys to a new apartment, and in his own words:

Hot Daum. I got the apartment. I sign the lease agreement
tomorrow at 1030am. Two miles from work. Yes!!!

Prayer works. I am like a kid in a candy store.

Yes, prayer can work, but what also worked for Tony was hard work, determination, persistence and a work ethic that is hard to match. Congratulations Tony on achieving your dream of returning to self-sufficiency. We’re glad to have been a part of your journey.

Tony has been a part of our HWH family since October 2020. Our mission is to help people return to independent living and self-sufficiency. The HWH model is partner based and encompasses housing, mental health services, workforce training and employment. This supportive structure and services helps people stabilize, develop a support network, become trained, gain experience, get a job, secure independent housing and ultimately become self-sufficient. This is exactly what happened for Tony, and is a testament to how there are many many people that are ready, willing and able able to attain this goal if given the opportunity. Here’s what Tony said about HWH:

As you all assist me in leaping over this last
hurdle, I acknowledge you for inspiring me to
stay the course and focus again.

I have found my drive for excellence one
more time.

Tony started in our program in October 2020. He had recently lost his position at a recruiting firm when he became ill and was not able to keep up with the 12-14 hour remote work days as Covid set in that Spring. Money quickly ran out, and for the first time in his life, Tony found himself without housing, and made his way to the Comitis shelter where he learned about our job training program. He completed our Culinary Quickstart Program, gaining course completion credit through Emily Griffith Technical college. Tony excelled in our Apprenticeship program and was primed and ready this Spring as the hospitality industry opened back up, securing a job downtown at one of our employer partners – a premier hotel and banquet center.

We have so much respect and admiration for Tony. He exemplifies hard work and overcoming challenges. Now, Tony has a lot of initial expenses –  outfitting a small apartment means buying a bed, bedding, table, chairs, couch, dresser, etc.  We’ve employed 10 people through our program already, and there are three others like Tony about to get their own housing too.  We’re starting a special fund to help our graduates with initial move-in expenses.  If you’d like to donate to this special cause, please click this link.

We started another new cohort last week, and have five more individuals committed to turning their lives around and returning to self-sufficiency.  We’re now starting new cohorts every six weeks. Please contact us if you know someone that could benefit from our program. We’re increasing the size of our next cohort to ten, and plan to scale up to serving over 100 people in the next 12 months.  Please help us help others.  The model works.  People make change happen.  Let’s scale it up and get more people back into independent housing, earning money, and leading fulfilling lives.

Graduates who are getting their first apartment or other housing after leaving our program almost never have any of the basic things needed to help them get started.

We are setting up a special fund to help graduates with initial housing expenses like a bed, linens, food, etc. Please donate and help them continue their momentum.
